Software Engineer, Monetization

About Global Data and BI Global Data and BI is hiring on a rolling basis for Data, BI & Analytics and ML/AI projects for large corporations. Beyond consulting services, we build production-ready business platforms and SaaS applications that leverage modern cloud technologies, data analytics, and AI capabilities. We deliver enterprise-grade solutions with certified engineers in AWS and Microsoft Azure / Power BI technologies. Our focus includes transformation projects in the financial industry, custom platform development, and our proprietary Noème suite of products. Our mission is to transform the corporate data journey from complexity to strategic clarity, ensuring data is not just collected, but leveraged to drive smarter decisions, stronger businesses, and lasting impact.

Summary

The Monetization team makes it simple and reliable for enterprise customers to purchase and grow with our Noème products and services. Our work spans billing infrastructure, subscription management, usage-based pricing for AI and data processing, payment processing, revenue recognition, and the experiences that help customers understand their investments and consumption.

We're looking for an experienced software engineer to be a technical leader on the Monetization team. You'll focus on the foundations of how Global Data and BI charges customers: subscription plans, entitlements, usage metering, payments, invoicing, revenue recognition, and AI/data usage tracking. You will work closely with product, design, finance, data, sales, and customer success teams to ship changes that are both technically sound and business-critical.

This is a great role if you enjoy hard systems problems (correctness, performance, reliability) and like seeing your work directly impact how enterprise customers buy and use data platforms.

What you'll do (roles & responsibilities)

  • Design and evolve the architecture for billing and pricing systems so we can launch new subscription plans, add-ons, usage-based pricing models, and enterprise licensing without repeated rewrites
  • Build usage metering and tracking systems for AI features, data processing, storage consumption, and compute resources
  • Own end-to-end monetization projects that touch multiple systems and teams, from early technical design through rollout, iteration, and revenue impact measurement
  • Implement subscription management including plan upgrades/downgrades, seat management, feature entitlements, and access control
  • Develop payment processing integrations with payment gateways (Stripe, Adyen), ACH/wire transfers, and purchase order systems for enterprise clients
  • Build invoicing and billing systems that handle complex enterprise scenarios: multi-year contracts, annual vs. monthly billing, prorated charges, credits, and refunds
  • Implement revenue recognition logic compliant with ASC 606 and integrate with financial systems (NetSuite, QuickBooks, ERP systems)
  • Create customer billing dashboards that show usage, consumption forecasts, upcoming charges, and historical spending
  • Improve reliability, observability, and correctness of monetization flows (preventing double-billing, missed invoices, quota drift, or usage tracking errors)
  • Design and implement entitlement systems that control access to features based on customer plans, usage limits, and contract terms
  • Build admin tools for finance and customer success teams to manage subscriptions, apply credits, generate invoices, and handle billing exceptions
  • Partner with Sales and Finance to support custom enterprise pricing, quote generation, contract terms, and billing schedules
  • Implement multi-currency support for international customers with proper exchange rate handling and regional payment methods
  • Build analytics and reporting on revenue metrics, churn, expansion revenue, usage trends, and monetization effectiveness
  • Ensure security and compliance for payment data (PCI DSS), financial data, and customer information
  • Integrate with CRM and ERP systems (Salesforce, NetSuite, Dynamics) for quote-to-cash workflows
  • Design audit trails for all billing events, changes, and financial transactions
  • Partner with product and business stakeholders to turn ambiguous monetization ideas into clear technical plans and shipping milestones
  • Help other engineers grow by reviewing designs and code, sharing best practices, and setting a high bar for technical craft
  • Contribute to technical architecture decisions and establish patterns for building reliable financial systems

What you should have (Must-Haves)

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with 3+ years building complex backend systems in production
  • Deep expertise in system design and data modeling for transactional, correctness-sensitive domains
  • Strong backend development skills in languages like Python, Java, Node.js, or Go for building reliable financial systems
  • Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server) and understanding of ACID transactions, concurrency, and consistency
  • Track record of leading projects that required coordination across multiple teams and stakeholders
  • Understanding of distributed systems challenges including idempotency, eventual consistency, and failure handling
  • Experience building APIs (REST, GraphQL) that other teams and systems depend on
  • Knowledge of event-driven architectures and message queues for reliable processing
  • Strong data modeling skills for complex domains like subscriptions, usage, entitlements, and billing
  • Experience with production operations including monitoring, alerting, debugging, and incident response
  • Clear, empathetic communication with both technical and non-technical partners (finance, sales, product, customer success)
  • Bias toward simple, robust solutions over clever ones, and comfort working in evolving product areas
  • Attention to detail and commitment to correctness in financial systems where errors have real business impact
  • Pragmatic approach to balancing business needs, technical excellence, and delivery timelines

Nice-to-Haves

  • Direct experience with payments, billing, or subscription systems (Stripe, Chargebee, Zuora, Recurly)
  • Knowledge of usage-based pricing and metering systems for SaaS applications
  • Experience with revenue recognition standards (ASC 606, IFRS 15) and financial system integrations
  • Understanding of enterprise sales and complex B2B pricing models (annual contracts, volume discounts, seat-based, usage-based)
  • Experience with quote-to-cash workflows and CRM/ERP integrations (Salesforce, NetSuite, Dynamics)
  • Knowledge of payment processing including PCI DSS compliance, tokenization, and secure payment handling
  • Experience with multi-currency billing and international payment methods
  • Understanding of tax calculation (sales tax, VAT, GST) and integration with tax services (Avalara, TaxJar)
  • Experience building admin tools for finance and operations teams
  • Background in financial services or other regulated industries with audit requirements
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations and how they apply to billing information
  • Experience with cloud cost allocation and showback/chargeback systems
  • Understanding of contract management and how billing ties to legal agreements
  • Familiarity with our tech stack: Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL, React, AWS/Azure
  • Experience with observability tools (DataDog, New Relic, Grafana) for financial systems monitoring
  • Contributions to open source billing or financial software
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and French (asset for Quebec clients and bilingual billing interfaces)
