Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

About Global Data and BI Global Data and BI is hiring on a rolling basis for Data, BI & Analytics and ML/AI projects for large corporations. Beyond consulting services, we build production-ready business platforms and SaaS applications that leverage modern cloud technologies, data analytics, and AI capabilities. We deliver enterprise-grade solutions with certified engineers in AWS and Microsoft Azure / Power BI technologies. Our focus includes transformation projects in the financial industry, custom platform development, and our proprietary Noème suite of products. Our mission is to transform the corporate data journey from complexity to strategic clarity, ensuring data is not just collected, but leveraged to drive smarter decisions, stronger businesses, and lasting impact.

Summary

Our teams integrate into the client's operations. As a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you will collaborate with data engineering teams, platform engineers, product developers, and business stakeholders to build and scale the foundational cloud environment that supports both our enterprise data platforms and production SaaS applications. You will architect and maintain the infrastructure components that enable reliable, secure, and performant solutions for our clients: from data pipelines and analytics workloads to full-stack business applications.

You will work on fundamental infrastructure components including container orchestration, application deployment, cloud cost efficiency, resilience, networking, and resource orchestration. You will build self-service platforms that enable engineers to deploy rapidly and reliably with strong guardrails. You will ensure our infrastructure scales to support large-scale data processing, analytics workloads, ML/AI pipelines, and production web applications across multiple cloud environments.

What you'll do (roles & responsibilities)

  • Drive the cloud infrastructure strategy and execution across compute, networking, and resource orchestration, ensuring platforms scale reliably and securely
  • Design and implement container orchestration solutions (Kubernetes, ECS, EKS) to support data processing and analytics workloads
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Pulumi, or similar technologies to manage multi-cloud environments (AWS, Azure)
  • Optimize cloud cost efficiency through capacity planning, cost attribution, and resource optimization strategies
  • Build next-generation self-service platforms that enable data engineers to deploy with velocity while maintaining security and reliability standards
  • Establish and maintain observability tools to validate changes, catch regressions, and ensure system reliability
  • Lead operational excellence initiatives including incident response, post-mortems, and reliability improvements
  • Implement and enforce cloud security best practices and compliance policies across environments
  • Design and manage networking architecture including VPCs, load balancing, CDN (Cloudflare), and cross-region connectivity
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to optimize infrastructure for big data workloads (Spark, Databricks, data warehouses)
  • Participate in sustainable on-call rotation and guide teams through high-severity incidents
  • Establish strong engineering patterns and best practices for infrastructure development
  • Build automation to reduce operational toil and increase developer velocity

What you should have (Must-Haves)

  • Bachelor's degree required (master's an asset) in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience in a technology or business environment
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a hands-on software engineer working on cloud infrastructure and distributed systems
  • Strong expertise in cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure) including compute, networking, storage, and security services
  • Proficient in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation) and managing infrastructure at scale
  • Experience with container orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, ECS, EKS, AKS) in production environments
  • Strong programming skills in Python, Go, or TypeScript with experience contributing to large codebases
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows (Git, GitLab, Jenkins, GitHub Actions)
  • Expertise in cloud networking concepts including VPCs, subnets, security groups, load balancers, DNS, and CDN technologies
  • Experience with observability and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor)
  • Demonstrated ability to optimize cloud costs through capacity planning, rightsizing, and resource efficiency
  • Experience with operational excellence including incident management, on-call responsibilities, and post-mortem processes
  • Strong understanding of security best practices for cloud environments including IAM, secrets management, and compliance
  • Test-driven development mindset with focus on reliability and production stability
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex distributed systems issues
  • Strong communication skills with ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams
  • Proficiency in English both written and spoken

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience supporting big data infrastructure (Spark, Databricks, Redshift, Snowflake, data lakes)
  • Experience with service mesh technologies (Istio, Linkerd) and API gateways
  • Knowledge of FinOps practices and cloud financial management
  • Experience with multi-cloud or hybrid cloud architectures
  • Certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, AWS DevOps Engineer, Azure Solutions Architect
  • Experience with policy as code (OPA, Sentinel) and security automation
  • Familiarity with AI/ML infrastructure requirements and GPU workloads
  • Experience using AI tools to accelerate development and operational tasks
  • Background in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices
  • Experience with Agile development methodologies
