Software Engineer, Developer Experience

About Global Data and BI Global Data and BI is hiring on a rolling basis for Data, BI & Analytics and ML/AI projects for large corporations. Beyond consulting services, we build production-ready business platforms and SaaS applications that leverage modern cloud technologies, data analytics, and AI capabilities. We deliver enterprise-grade solutions with certified engineers in AWS and Microsoft Azure / Power BI technologies. Our focus includes transformation projects in the financial industry, custom platform development, and our proprietary Noème suite of products. Our mission is to transform the corporate data journey from complexity to strategic clarity, ensuring data is not just collected, but leveraged to drive smarter decisions, stronger businesses, and lasting impact.

Summary

As a Software Engineer on the Developer Experience team, you will be responsible for building, maintaining, and scaling the tools, frameworks, and infrastructure that enable our engineering teams to work efficiently. You'll focus on making data engineers, platform engineers, and product developers more productive through better tooling, streamlined workflows, and optimized development environments. This role is critical as we scale our team and deliver increasingly complex data platforms and AI-powered products to enterprise clients.

The Developer Experience team is responsible for architecting, implementing, and scaling the internal tools and frameworks that our engineers use daily to build data platforms, Noème products, and client solutions. We are looking for engineers who are passionate about solving engineering productivity challenges, have deep empathy for other developers, and love to communicate with engineering teams.

What you'll do (roles & responsibilities)

  • Build and maintain developer tools that improve productivity for data engineers, platform engineers, and product developers across the organization
  • Optimize CI/CD pipelines for data platforms, infrastructure deployments, and application releases - ensuring fast, reliable, and safe deployments
  • Design and implement development environments that make it easy for engineers to build, test, and deploy data pipelines, infrastructure, and applications
  • Create internal tooling and CLI applications for common engineering workflows like project scaffolding, data pipeline testing, infrastructure provisioning, and deployment automation
  • Improve build and test infrastructure to enable fast feedback loops - aiming for PR pipelines to complete within 15-20 minutes
  • Work with GitHub and version control workflows to optimize code review processes, branch management, and merge automation
  • Develop code quality tools including linters, formatters, static analysis, and security scanning for Python, TypeScript, SQL, and infrastructure code
  • Build automated testing frameworks for data pipelines, APIs, and infrastructure, making it easy for engineers to write and run tests
  • Create documentation and internal guides on development best practices, tooling usage, and architectural patterns
  • Monitor and improve developer metrics like build times, deployment frequency, PR cycle time, and developer satisfaction
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to understand pain points, gather requirements, and prioritize improvements to developer workflows
  • Evaluate and integrate new developer tools from the open source ecosystem (GitHub Actions, Terraform, dbt, pytest, etc.)
  • Implement infrastructure as code (IaC) tooling to standardize cloud resource provisioning across AWS and Azure
  • Build data pipeline development tools that help engineers develop, test, and debug ETL/ELT workflows locally before deploying to production
  • Create observability and debugging tools that help engineers quickly identify and resolve issues in development and production
  • Standardize project templates and boilerplates for common patterns (data pipelines, APIs, web applications, infrastructure modules)
  • Optimize developer onboarding by building tools and documentation that help new engineers get productive quickly
  • Support incident response by building tools that help engineers quickly investigate and resolve production issues
  • Drive adoption of best practices around testing, code quality, security, and operational excellence
  • Contribute to engineering culture by championing developer experience improvements and fostering a culture of continuous improvement

What you should have (Must-Haves)

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3-7 years of software engineering experience with some focus on developer tooling, infrastructure, or platform engineering
  • Strong programming skills in languages commonly used for tooling (Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Go, or Bash)
  • Experience with CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, CircleCI) and optimizing build and deployment pipelines
  • Understanding of software development workflows and common pain points that developers face
  • Experience with version control (Git/GitHub) and collaborative development practices
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure) and infrastructure automation
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration tools
  • Experience with testing frameworks and automated testing best practices
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex issues across different systems
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to understand developer needs and translate them into tooling solutions
  • Empathy for developers and genuine interest in making engineers more productive
  • Pragmatic and business-oriented mindset - understanding the balance between developer experience improvements and business priorities
  • Self-directed and ownership-oriented - able to identify problems, propose solutions, and drive implementation
  • Comfortable with interrupts - able to context switch between project work and urgent developer blockers

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with data engineering tools (dbt, Apache Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, Spark)
  • Familiarity with TypeScript and modern JavaScript tooling (especially for building CLI tools and web UIs)
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi, CloudFormation, ARM templates)
  • Knowledge of data pipeline testing and data quality frameworks
  • Experience with Python development tools (pytest, mypy, black, ruff, poetry, uv)
  • Understanding of cloud-native development and serverless architectures
  • Experience with monitoring and observability tools (DataDog, New Relic, Grafana)
  • Knowledge of security scanning and dependency management tools
  • Experience building internal developer portals or self-service platforms
  • Familiarity with SQL and database development workflows
  • Understanding of data platform architectures (lakehouses, data warehouses, streaming platforms)
  • Experience with React and building internal web-based tools
  • Background in DevOps or SRE practices
  • Experience with AI/ML development workflows and MLOps tooling
